MegaCorp Industries unveiled its annual Pride Month social media campaign today, changing its logo to a rainbow version and posting "Love Is Love" with a heart emoji, while its PAC continues to donate generously to legislators who believe love is, in fact, conditional.
The company's Instagram post, which features stock photos of diverse people laughing in a suspiciously well-lit office that looks nothing like MegaCorp's actual fluorescent-lit cubicle farm, has already garnered 50,000 likes and approximately 12,000 comments pointing out the hypocrisy.
"We stand with the LGBTQ+ community during this special month," read the caption, carefully not mentioning any of the other eleven months or the $2.3 million donated to candidates who have voted against LGBTQ+ protections.
Drag activist and corporate accountability researcher Audit LaRue compiled the receipts — literally. "They spent more on this Instagram campaign than they donated to any actual LGBTQ+ organization last year," she noted, adjusting her spreadsheet-patterned gown. "The serve is in the data, honey."
MegaCorp's head of DEI, who was hired in May and whose contract ends in July, assured reporters that the company's commitment to diversity "goes beyond just one month." When asked to name a specific initiative, she said she'd "have to get back to us" and was not heard from again.
The rainbow logo will be removed at 12:01 AM on July 1st, as per tradition.
